The US rail service provider BNSF is planning to invest USD 100 million in the maintenance of its rail infrastructure in New Mexico, USD 130 million in Minnesota and USD 220 million in the state of Washington this year.
The largest component of this year’s capital plan in the three states includes almost 4,000 km of track surfacing and/or undercutting work, the replacement of about 250 km of rail and more than 715,000 ties, as well as signal upgrades for federally mandated positive train control (PTC).
The Texas-based railway, which operates a total of 52,300 route km of track in 28 states, is also active in three Canadian provinces. (ben)
